City of Mississauga’s Culture Projects Canada’s Grant Program

The City of Mississauga in Canada is now accepting applications for its Culture Projects Grant Program, which aims to support arts and culture initiatives celebrating the city’s 50th anniversary in 2024. The theme, “Celebrate 50,” focuses on acknowledging the city’s diverse communities and their unique cultural practices, as well as bringing attention to lesser-known stories and histories related to Mississauga.

Key Features of the Grant Program:

    1. Purpose: The grants are designed to commemorate Mississauga’s past, present, and future, honor its rich heritage, and encourage creative collaborations that showcase the city’s neighborhoods and artistic communities. The program aims to inspire cultural practitioners to create various artistic experiences that reflect the city’s cultural diversity.
    2. Funding: The grants support place-making initiatives using innovative spaces and platforms. Projects must occur between January 1 and December 31, 2024. They should have clear objectives and a detailed budget. Eligible organizations can receive up to 50% of their project budget or $5,000, whichever is less. Each organization is limited to receiving this funding for a maximum of two consecutive years, and only one grant application is allowed per year.
    3. Eligibility: Applicants must be not-for-profit, governed by volunteers or a legal collective, or Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), focusing on projects that celebrate Mississauga’s 50th anniversary. Projects must be accessible to all residents of Mississauga and center around arts, culture, or heritage. They must also take place within Mississauga.

    Ineligibility Criteria:

    • Government agencies, for-profit organizations, political party-affiliated organizations, and individuals or individual artists are ineligible.
    • Projects that receive other city grants or initiatives, educational institutions, commercial ventures, and charitable causes are excluded.
    • The grant does not cover major capital expenditures, travel and accommodation costs, attendance at events like conventions, or projects that require participation in religious activities.
